What is Skin Essence? And What Are Its Benefits?

Yet another skincare product that has been floating around the internet — skin essence. If you’ve heard about it, you may be wondering what it is exactly? The skincare world is an ever-growing market.

We know it can get overwhelming, believe us! That's why we take the time to let you know when a product is worth trying. We would never lead you astray or waste your time on a product that isn't worthy for your skin.

If you've been itching to know what exactly skin essence is, Nourishing Biologicals is here to fill you in. In this article, we’ll discuss what essence is, how it benefits your skin, and why you should add it to your skin care regimen.

What Is Essence?

While skin essence may sound completely foreign to you, it was actually introduced to the world of skincare in 1897. Since then, it has picked up popularity in the Korean beauty industry, which may be music to your ears.

If you know anything about Korean beauty, they know their skincare!

Essence is used to hydrate your skin thoroughly. It is a water-based skin care product that contains high amounts of active ingredients – leaving your skin hydrated while prolonging the skin's overall health.

Skin essence is usually applied in the middle of your skincare routine, right after your cleansing process. The reason essence is applied after is to help rehydrate the skin.

When it comes to skincare, you want a product that will work well with other products. Using Skin essence will do just that. Adding this step to your skincare routine will not only elevate the appearance of your skin but will help all your other skincare products work their magic even better.

Since essence is hydrating like a serum but much lighter in weight, it helps penetrate deep into the skin.

What’s the Difference Between Essence and Serum?

While both essences and serums contain high levels of active ingredients, they play different roles in a skincare routine. Serums are generally thicker and more viscous than essence. This means that it works to penetrate the skin. However, serums are not focused on hydration, but rather help target specific issues, such as aging skin and discoloration.

As a result, using an essence before applying serum can help the skin better absorb serum.

What Are Common Ingredients Found In Essence?

Skincare products that are beneficial to your skin tend to have some of the same ingredients or properties. If you're shopping for essence and find yourself stuck on which one to buy, always go to the ingredients list.

Water

Water serves as an essential base for the essence and hydrates the skin.

Glycerin, or Glycol

Known as a moisturizing agent that helps trap moisture into the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient in many reliable skincare products, and that's because it works! Hyaluronic acid works wonders in hydrating your skin and giving it that natural youthful glow.

Botanical Plant Extracts

Having plant extracts in the ingredients isn't a must, but it doesn’t hurt. Plant extracts can provide necessary antioxidants to the skin.

Vitamins, Minerals, and Lipids

These three ingredients make a powerhouse. Each of them can help aid the stretch and nourishment of the skin cells.

Is Using Essence Beneficial?

Anything that hydrates your skin can be beneficial, but when you add all the bells and whistles that essence skincare products have, it is bound to positively affect your skin. There are, of course, exceptions for everything and everyone; while a majority of people love essence, that's not to say everyone will have the same experience.

On top of providing an abundant amount of moisture, it also offers other benefits.

  • Can rehydrate skin cells
  • Can protect the skin barrier
  • Boost skin health
  • Softens and smoothes the epidermis
  • Rehalance the skin’s pH levels

Depending on the other active ingredients found in the essence, there may be additional benefits as well. This includes support for acne-reducing benefits, UV protection, and high content of antioxidants.

What Are The Best Ways To Apply Essence?

Application is key when it comes to all skincare products. When applying essence, don’t be afraid to use your hands. Application with a cotton pad or swab may seem like the cleanest or most effective way, but a lot of your product may stay on the applicator, which is not ideal.

After all, you want all the hydrating goodness you can get! So, skip the application tools. Simply apply two to three drops of essence on your palm, then gently rub the product into your skin.

How To Incorporate Essence To Your Skincare Routine

Step #1: Water Temperature

Using the perfect water temperature is crucial. If the water is too hot, it can strip away your skin's natural oils, leaving your skin dry and dull. You should opt for room temperature or cold water.

While there is no need to make each cleansing session an ice-facial, washing your face with cold water on a regular basis is good for your skin.

Step #2: Cleanse

Cleansing is usually the first step to most routines and is arguably one of the more important ones. Everyone has their own way of cleansing their skin and which products they prefer. The only thing that really matters is that your cleanser is plenty nourishing and that it works with your skin.

We recommend using the Miracular Hydrating Cleanser, which utilizes natural key ingredients and hydrates skin of all types.

Don’t forget to pat dry!

After you cleanse your skin and before you move onto toner you should gently pat dry your face. This ensures you get any excess water off that will cause the toner to run down your face into your eyes.

No skincare product feels good in your eyes, but toner would be especially uncomfortable.

Step #3: Toner

Toner is applied after you cleanse; this way, you get any excess dirt or bacteria left behind. Toner works best when applied to a cotton pad or swab first, then applied to your skin.

Toners can sometimes give a cooling sensation, which is totally normal; it means it's working.

Step #4: Apple Essence

Now, it's time to try out your new skincare addition, the essence. The essence is applied after your cleanse and toner but before the moisturizers or serums.

This allows the essence to penetrate deep into the skin, which will help the other products do the same.

Step #5: Use a Moisturizer

The next step is to moisturize. Moisturizing every day is the best way to keep your skin glowing. After you use essence for the first time, we bet you'll see a noticeable difference in your skin after you moisturize.

Step #6: Sunscreen

Even though most moisturizers have some SPF in them, it doesn't mean it's enough for the entire day. No matter how little you're in the sun, you should always apply sunscreen.

UV rays can be damaging to your skin and overexposure to the sun can lead to premature lines, wrinkles, and other severe skin conditions.

Step #7: Serums

Facial serums aren't a part of everyone's skincare routine, but they aren't rare either. It is usually more of a personal preference. Incorporating serums is beneficial as it adds more vitamins and nutrients to your skincare routine.

Make Miracular Skin Essence a Part of Your Routine

The final verdict is that essence is not only good for your skin, but might have to be a new staple in your skincare routine.

Skincare routines are one of the ultimate forms of self-care.
