Whether you're outdoors 12 hours a day or work a nine to five desk job, your cleansing routine is important. If you're not giving your skin its needed TLC, you may experience dull, dry, or acne-prone skin. 

Some prefer cleansing in the morning, while others integrate it into their nighttime routine. We say it's best if you cleanse your skin twice a day. Your nighttime cleansing works to remove makeup, dirt, and debris and allows your skin to absorb product better. Morning cleansing preps your skin for the day, allows for better product penetration, and removes any active products from your skin that will cause an increase sensitivities to the sun, like retinol.

Tip #1: Start With Lukewarm Water

Water temperature plays a crucial part in getting the perfect facial cleanse. Just like goldie-locks, the water shouldn't be too hot or too cold; it needs to be just right! Aka, lukewarm water. 

Always opt for lukewarm water when you're washing your face. Using extremely hot water is notorious for drying out the skin. Due to the high temperature, it can easily strip natural oils.

When your skin is left with no natural oils, it tends to overproduce more oil, leading to breakouts. 

However, while cold water is the most beneficial, waking up to a cold splash of water to the face isn't always the best way to start your morning. 

Tip #2: Use The Right Cleanser 

Of course, having the right cleanser is essential for skin care. If you've been struggling to find a cleanser that works for you, here are a few tips that might help. 

If You Have Dry Skin

Tip #7: Avoid Using Body Soap

It can be tempting to grab the first thing in sight while you're cleansing your face. But especially when you're rushing through your morning skincare routine. However, you should never use body soap. 

Body soap can be harsh on your skin as it strips away almost all of your skin's natural oils. 

Tip #8: Skip The Washcloth 

Washcloths are meant for dishes, not your face. Using a washcloth may seem harmless, but we're here to tell you it may be harsher on your skin than you may realize.

It's a common habit to stop cleansing once you get to your chin, but your neck needs to be cleansed and moisturized, too.

While it can be tempting, especially if your skin has been extra oily lately – but don't over-exfoliate. Exfoliating is good for your skin, in moderation. You should only exfoliate up to two to three times per week.

Sunscreen is essential every day, no matter your skin type. Yes, even if your time outside is minimal. The sun's UV rays can be harmful in the slightest exposure. Plus, the sun can potentially dry out your skin, so daily application is essential for radiant skin.

Last tip, best tip -- you heard us right; no matter what, you should always cleanse at night too. Yes, even if you washed your face in the morning. 

During the day, your skin is exposed to dirt and bacteria, so even if you wash your face every morning, a nightly cleanse is still essential. You don't want all of that dirt and grime from your busy day sitting on your skin all night, right? 

Following a double cleansing routine doesn't have to be done both day and night. Your nighttime routine should be centered around achieving a deep cleanse and moisturizing. In contrast, your morning routine should be centered around protecting your skin from the harsh elements it may encounter during the day.
