12 Necessary Face Cleansing Tips

Cleansing your face can seem like a challenge sometimes, especially after a long day. But failing to wash your face on a regular basis can lead to a host of skin issues.

If you feel your cleansing routine needs a bit of help, there's no shame in that; we've all been there. Some people are simply more knowledgeable about skincare and what works for them.

Nourishing Biologicals is here to relay you some important information.

Is Daily Cleansing Necessary?

Whether you're outdoors 12 hours a day or work a nine to five desk job, your cleansing routine is important. If you're not giving your skin its needed TLC, you may experience dull, dry, or acne-prone skin.

Some prefer cleansing in the morning, while others integrate it into their nighttime routine. We say it's best if you cleanse your skin twice a day. Your nighttime cleansing works to remove makeup, dirt, and debris and allows your skin to absorb product better. Morning cleansing preps your skin for the day, allows for better product penetration, and removes any active products from your skin that will cause an increase sensitivities to the sun, like retinol.

Check out these 12 necessary face cleansing tips to consider with Nourishing Biologicals.

Tip #1: Start With Lukewarm Water

Water temperature plays a crucial part in getting the perfect facial cleanse. Just like goldie-locks, the water shouldn't be too hot or too cold; it needs to be just right! Aka, lukewarm water.

Always opt for lukewarm water when you're washing your face. Using extremely hot water is notorious for drying out the skin. Due to the high temperature, it can easily strip natural oils.

When your skin is left with no natural oils, it tends to overproduce more oil, leading to breakouts.

However, while cold water is the most beneficial, waking up to a cold splash of water to the face isn't always the best way to start your morning.

Tip #2: Use The Right Cleanser

Of course, having the right cleanser is essential for skin care. If you've been struggling to find a cleanser that works for you, here are a few tips that might help.

If You Have Dry Skin

Finding the right cleanser might be a little challenging if you have notoriously dry skin. We suggest opting for products rich in nourishing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, or any cleanser rich in natural oils, like jojoba, like our Miracular Hydrating Cleanser

If you have dry or sensitive skin, you must nourish it by always giving it ingredients that moisturize the skin. It's a good idea to steer clear of any skincare products that use harsh chemicals like alcohol, mineral oils, or phthalates. These ingredients can wreak havoc on your skin

If You Have Oily Skin

There is a big difference between glowing skin and being downright greasy. Having oily skin can be a hassle to deal with, considering it can feel impossible to get under control — no matter how much setting powder you put on.

The best way to keep your oily skin at bay is by using a face cleanser that works well with your skin.

Always opt for a gentle cleanser that foams. You don't want to use anything harsh on your skin as that can sometimes cause it to produce even more oil.

Tip #3: Be Gentle

We know it can be tempting to scrub your face while cleansing, but we suggest resisting that urge. Scrubbing can irritate the skin and cause redness or rub burn.

We suggest wetting your face, applying your favorite cleanser of choice, and gently wash your face in a slow and gentle circular motion.

Tip #4: Always Pat Dry

After you've gently cleansed your skin, grab a clean hand towel and gently pat dry your face. Make sure to take gentle care as you don't want to be too rough. This can irritate the skin.

Tip #5: Moisturize Immediately

Apply moisturizer after cleansing and lightly drying the excess moisture from your face. It is best to moisturize when your skin is damp. This way, it absorbs the product most efficiently.

Using the right moisturizer is crucial to your skincare routine. Always opt for products with nourishing properties, like sea kelp and hydrolyzed collagen, as found in our Miracular Nourishing Set.

Tip #6: Don’t Wash Your Face In The Shower

While this isn't necessarily the worst thing to do, we always suggest avoiding washing your face in the shower or bath.

For many of us who prefer hot showers or baths, washing our face with water isn't good for your skin health. While a hot, steamy bath is essential in the ultimate self-care bedtime routine, try to keep each routine separate.

Tip #7: Avoid Using Body Soap

It can be tempting to grab the first thing in sight while you're cleansing your face. But especially when you're rushing through your morning skincare routine. However, you should never use body soap.

Body soap can be harsh on your skin as it strips away almost all of your skin's natural oils.

Tip #8: Skip The Washcloth

Washcloths are meant for dishes, not your face. Using a washcloth may seem harmless, but we're here to tell you it may be harsher on your skin than you may realize.

Foaming your facial cleanser with your hands and using your palms will do just fine as you can control how gently or roughly you’re rubbing your skin.

Tip #9: Don't Forget The Neck

This is especially important during your moisturizing process. But, you never want to forget your neck, no matter which part of your skincare routine.

It's a common habit to stop cleansing once you get to your chin, but your neck needs to be cleansed and moisturized, too.

Tip #10: Don’t Over Exfoliate

While it can be tempting, especially if your skin has been extra oily lately – but don't over-exfoliate. Exfoliating is good for your skin, in moderation. You should only exfoliate up to two to three times per week.

Tip #11: Always Apply Sunscreen

Sunscreen is essential every day, no matter your skin type. Yes, even if your time outside is minimal. The sun's UV rays can be harmful in the slightest exposure. Plus, the sun can potentially dry out your skin, so daily application is essential for radiant skin.

Tip #12: Cleanse At Night

Last tip, best tip -- you heard us right; no matter what, you should always cleanse at night too. Yes, even if you washed your face in the morning.

During the day, your skin is exposed to dirt and bacteria, so even if you wash your face every morning, a nightly cleanse is still essential. You don't want all of that dirt and grime from your busy day sitting on your skin all night, right?

Following a double cleansing routine doesn't have to be done both day and night. Your nighttime routine should be centered around achieving a deep cleanse and moisturizing. In contrast, your morning routine should be centered around protecting your skin from the harsh elements it may encounter during the day.

Be Patient With Your Face

Skincare can be frustrating, especially if your skin isn't appearing as perfect as you prefer. Just remember to be patient. Nobody gets perfect skin overnight, and it's about consistency and dedication to your skincare routine.

Anything regarding skincare can seem daunting, which is why we are here to help.

At Nourishing Biologicals, we emphasize the importance of necessary face cleansing from start to finish. After all, how you implement your daily routine can help reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness for healthier-looking skin.
